Jim was named to his previous role as Executive Vice President for General Diagnostics in 2017, where he oversaw Quest’s general diagnostics business, accounting for more than 80% of the company’s $10.8 billion revenues in 2021 and encompassing three-quarters of its employee base. On February 3, 2022, Quest announced that, as part of a gradual leadership succession plan, Jim will assume the responsibilities of Chief Executive Officer, effective November 1, 2022, succeeding Steve Rusckowski. Jim Davis is CEO-elect of Quest Diagnostics. He earned a Master of Science degree in Management from the Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he serves on the Board of Trustees. He is also an Emeritus Director of Project HOPE, a global health education and humanitarian assistance organization. Steve is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Clinical Laboratory Association and served as its Chairman from 2014 to 2017. He joined Philips in 2001 when it acquired the Healthcare Solutions Group he was leading at Hewlett-Packard/Agilent Technologies.

Prior to joining Quest Diagnostics, Steve was CEO of Philips Healthcare, which became the largest unit of Royal Philips Electronics under his leadership. Steve has also driven Quest to build a more inclusive, team-oriented culture, which today features more than ten employee business networks, and is overseen by a board of directors composed of 50% women and two people of color. In 2020 he spearheaded the launch of Quest for Health Equity, a $100 million commitment to reduce health disparities among the underserved in the U.S., particularly in communities of color. In doing so, Steve transformed Quest from a laboratory company that was not growing in 2012 to the leader in diagnostic information services with record revenues, earnings, and cash generation in 2021. Soon after arriving at Quest in May 2012, Steve has championed a strategy to accelerate growth and drive operational excellence, focusing on improving relationships with health plans and hospital health systems and expanding faster-growing businesses in advanced diagnostics and consumer testing. At that time, Steve will continue to serve on the Quest Board of Directors as Executive Chairman. On February 3, 2022, Quest Diagnostics announced that, as part of a gradual leadership succession plan, Steve will gradually transition his responsibilities as Chief Executive Officer to Jim Davis, who will become CEO on November 1, 2022. We had conversations in terms of how the lab industry can support expanded testing, and the FDA and CDC recognized early on that unlocking state laboratories adds a lot of capacity. Honestly, the CDC and the FDA understood the challenges we faced early on with COVID-19 and didn't want to replicate the stumbles that occurred, so there was a lot of communication with health policymakers in the laboratory industry.
